Are you the type of traveler who wants to be immersed in the history and culture of the places you’re visiting? Check out this itinerary.

Day 1

Arrive at a Lakeside Resort in Oneida County

A pine-sided main lodge gives this resort a timeless charm. Small cottages hidden about the property afford different views of the flowage. It’s a setting that instantly produces a sense of calm. Drop your bags in your cottage and head back to the historic main lodge for dinner. The menu includes wild duck, elk and pheasant. This place is a true throwback.

Day 2

A Tour of the Historical Museums of Oneida County

Oneida County offers the Northwoods Gumshoe eight historical society museums, as well as the Logging Museum Complex and the Snowmobile Hall of Fame Museum. Spend the day exploring museums, visiting historic sites and walking interesting Main Streets. You’ll get a sense of the people and events that shaped the communities and landscape of Oneida County.

Late Afternoon Trip to Outer Space

Take a cosmic journey at the Kovac Planetarium. The globe-style planetarium is a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll see a complete replica of the night skies.

Delightful Dinner Cruise

Step aboard the Wilderness Queen for a dinner cruise on the Wisconsin River. Enjoy Northwoods scenery while you eat. Take a seat on the upper deck and watch the forested riverbanks as the sun sinks low. Imagine the Ojibwe and fur traders who once paddled this river and the huge rafts of logs that once stretched from shore to shore. It’s a great way to end a day spent immersed in the history of Oneida County.

Day 3

Farewell Morning

Take one last look at the lake before packing up your things and loading the car. Make a stop at an antique shop and a gallery on your way out of town to pick up a memento of your trip. Then, head homeward, dreaming all the while of the legends and lore of Oneida County.
