2 breweries to visit in the Northwoods

There are fewer things better than stopping for a cold drink—and maybe sitting outside to enjoy the scenery—after a day of adventure in Oneida County. Here are two toast-worthy microbreweries you shouldn’t miss on your next trip to the Northwoods.

Rocky Reef Brewing Company, Woodruff

Started in 2015 by the husband and wife team of Tyler and Christie Smith, Rocky Reef has evolved from a half-barrel brew system to a 15-barrel brewhouse in the heart of downtown Woodruff. The brewery makes everything from hazy IPAs to amber ales to a key lime sour, and the taproom has lots of indoor and outdoor space where you can sample to your heart’s content—don’t miss Rocky Reef’s regularly scheduled live music and appearances from local food trucks, too.

Rhinelander Brewing Company

This brewery—known for its iconic “shorty” bottles—dates back to the 1880s, but the current iteration can be found at its brewery, taproom, and gift shop in the heart of downtown Rhinelander. The taproom boasts more than a dozen beers to choose from, with half of them made on-site at the brewery.  Stop by to enjoy a pint, catch some live music or participate in a trivia night, and enjoy this Rhinelander classic.
