Tomahawk is a vibrant community, full of small-town charm and thriving businesses. Located at the confluence of the Wisconsin, Tomahawk and Spirit rivers, just south of Oneida County, the community is encompassed by thousands of acres of exceptional fishing and boating waters.
The Tomahawk area is home to more than 15 lakes and flowages, providing ample room for boating and great fishing. Lake Alice is well known for its excellent fishing for perch, bluegill and crappie. Lake Mohawksin, which is formed at the confluence of the Somo, Tomahawk and Wisconsin rivers, is famous for its trophy musky fishing. Lake Nokomis offers great fishing for a variety of species and is a particularly good place to see bald eagles. Spirit Flowage is a fantastic place to fish for walleye. Accessing these lakes is easy—you’ll find more than 15 boat launches in the Tomahawk area.
The forests surrounding Tomahawk offer some of Wisconsin’s largest contiguous wilderness areas, ideal for hunting, hiking, mountain biking, ATVing, camping and birdwatching.
Hikers can choose from the Underdown Recreation Area and Timms Hill, which is a 25-minute drive west of Tomahawk. The Tomahawk River Walk follows the Wisconsin River. Bicyclists can ride the Hiawatha Trail and the Bearskin State Trail. ATVers can ride miles of trails throughout the Tomahawk area. From Tomahawk, snowmobilers can link to thousands of miles of trails running throughout the Northwoods.
Tomahawk is home to a number of parks, including Bradley Park, which offers a pristine view of virgin timber surrounded by water. Somo Avenue Recreation Area (SARA Park) also offers an indoor skating rink and a number of different sports fields. Swimming is available at SARA Park, Frenchtown Beach, Crystal Beach and Spirit Flowage Beach. In Washington Park, you’ll find the historical museum.
There’s a lot to do in Tomahawk. Spend some time visiting the shops located throughout town. In the evening, catch a movie at the local cinema or go bowling. Grab your friends for a game of paintball. Stop for an ice cream cone or visit the nearby Brigadoon Winery. Play a round at Inshalla Country Club.
