Oneida County winter fun guide

Here’s a look at some of your best bets for recreation when the snow flies in Oneida County.

Snowmobiling. Rev up your engines and take your sled out on more than 1,000 miles of trails that crisscross Oneida County. Plus, Oneida County’s snowmobile trails connect with thousands more miles of trails across northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Get lost (figuratively, we hope) in Oneida county’s scenic winter beauty after you strap on your skis or snowshoes and explore the Northwoods’ great silent-sport options. Get out on the CAVOC Trails, explore the trails at Holiday Acres or the Holmboe Nature Preserve or enjoy the abundant recreational options at Minocqua Winter Park.

Ice fishing. Once the ice gets thick enough, you’ll see shanties aplenty on Oneida County’s lakes. Northern pike, crappie and bluegill are the most popular targets for anglers during the ice fishing season, and there are plenty of lakes to choose from, including Boom Lake in Rhinelander and the Rainbow Flowage in northern Oneida County.
