Head to Oneida County in northern Wisconsin for your next ATV or UTV adventure, and you’ll discover great trails that pass through beautiful Northwoods scenery. Here’s what you need to know before you hit the trails.
What are the regulations for riding an ATV or UTV?
All ATV and UTV operators born on or after January 1, 1988, must complete a safety certification course to operate on public ATV/UTV trails in the state. Riders must be at least 16 years old and have a safety certificate to operate an ATV or UTV by themselves on a road route. Children ages 12 to 15 with a safety certificate can ride ATVs (not UTVs) on a road route only if they are accompanied by a parent or adult.
Operators and passengers under the age of 18 must wear a Wisconsin DOT-approved helmet.
Every occupant in a UTV must be seated with their seatbelt fastened.
