Hodag Heritage Festival, Rhinelander

Rhinelander is the home of the Hodag—a legendary beast that’s said to roam the Northwoods and cause all kinds of mischief, from stealing golf balls to grabbing trophy fish right off the line—and one of Oneida County’s newer events brings the famous furry creature front and center every May. The Hodag Heritage Festival highlights Rhinelander’s most famous resident with a week of activities (including a scavenger hunt and special food & drinks at restaurants and retailers), capping it off with a daylong celebration at Pioneer Park that includes a pancake breakfast, a Hodag calling contest, live music, historical tours, and more.

Oktoberfest, Three Lakes

Experience Oktoberfest in all its beer foam and schwein roast glory in downtown Three Lakes in mid-September. Three Lakes Oktoberfest offers a variety of food, entertainment, and vendors. Attendees can expect German fare, German beer and a whole pig roast, as well as baked goods, crafted wares, live demonstrations, and more. Games and friendly competitions for all ages, along with live music including the Pommersche Danz Gruppe from Wausau, one of two remaining Pomeranian dance troupes in the state, make this event a must for the entire family. Come hungry and ready to dance!

Beef-A-Rama™, Minocqua

Minocqua’s signature event, Beef-A-Rama™ is a one-of-a-kind celebration that comes to downtown Minocqua every year on the last weekend of September. Beef-A-Rama has been held in downtown Minocqua for more than 50 years and features fun events like the Rump Roast Run, beef cookoffs, games, live music, a craft show, and more. Put on your best cow costume—you won’t be the only one—and enjoy the fun.

Snowshoe Baseball, Lake Tomahawk

For more than 50 years, visitors and locals have turned out every summer to take in these modified baseball games played with a 16-inch softball, no gloves, and (you guessed it) snowshoes. Games take place every Monday night in June, July, and August, and food and drinks are available for spectators.
