Outdoors

Dreaming about your next outdoor adventure in Oneida County? Start by getting the right gear. Coontail has locations in Arbor Vitae and Boulder Junctionand sells kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, as well as outdoor clothing and supplies. Coasters Cycle Works in Tomahawk offers bike rentals, sales and repairs in the summer, but in the colder months, visitors can rent (or buy) cross-country skis, snowshoes and fatbikes from the shop in downtown Tomahawk.

Want to track down a musky on your next trip to the Northwoods? At Rollie & Helen’s Musky Shop in Minocqua, shoppers will find fishing supplies for any season (and other types of fish like bass, walleye and pike, too). Mel’s Trading Post in downtown Rhinelander has been serving Northwoods visitors since 1946 and offers all sorts of gear for outdoor adventures, as well as bike, paddlesports, ski and snowshoe rentals.

Clothing & apparel

Sallet’s Northwoods Outfitters in Minocqua has men’s and women’s clothing, as well as fun Northwoods gifts, including books, stickers, home décor and more. Lattitudes, an independent boutique in downtown Rhinelander, offers fashionable clothing, fun accessories like bags, purses and jewelry, and funky gifts for everyone on your list. Glik’s in downtown Minocqua is a great place to find fashions for men, women and kids, including shoes, accessories and outerwear.

Northland Clothing Company in Three Lakes is home to a wide selection of men’s, women’s  and kids’ clothing, as well as footwear and accessories. In Tomahawk, head to Honeycomb L.O.F.T. (Living Organic Fashion Textiles) to discover personally curated fashion, home decor, furniture and more.

Unique gifts

Three Lakes Mercantile is a throwback to the general stores of old, selling everything from Northwoods gifts to home decor to clothing (including Minnetonka moccasins).  Head to Minocqua’s Gaslight Square Shoppes to find A La Carte, which has welcomed Oneida County shoppers since 2002. The store is home to everything from bedding to rugs to aromatherapy items to gift baskets.

Rhinelander, located in the heart of Oneida County, is home to the Hodag, a mysterious, mischievous creature that’s been famous in the Northwoods for more than a century. These days, you can visit The Hodag Store in person or online to find Hodag-branded hats, T-shirts, bobbleheads, golf balls, street signs and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Looking for something for the kids? Check out Imaginuity, an independently-owned and operated toy store with locations in Rhinelander and Minocqua.

Support a local bookseller at Mind Chimes Bookshop in Three Lakes—you can also visit their website to order books via their online partner, bookseller.org, and have them delivered or sent to the shop for pickup. And what’s a Wisconsin getaway without cheese? The Cheese Shoppe in Tomahawk offers a large selection of Wisconsin favorites, specialty cheeses, meats, butter, syrups, jams, bread mixes, wild rice and much more.
